The importance of hearing the Word of God (the Bible) explained by gifted teachers and the importance of studying it for ourselves cannot be overstated.  The Word of God is just as necessary for spiritual growth and spiritual health as normal food is for our physical

well-being.

Quoting from the old-testament book of Deuteronomy, Jesus said: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”  (Matthew 4, verse 4)

In one of his letters to Timothy, Paul speaks about being “nourished up in the words of faith and of good teaching.”  (1st Timothy 4, verse 6)

The writer of Psalm 119. says in verse 103: “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

And the old-testament prophet Jeremiah wrote: “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.”  (Jeremiah 15, verse 16)
